Martian Potato
Martian Potato
Start with a single potato. End with a quantum-powered Mars colony.
A self-aware idle game about resource management, automation, and the subtle art of manipulating player psychology. Yes, this description is part of that manipulation.
Features
- Transform Mars through increasingly complex automation
- Manage resources: water, nutrients, ice
- Unlock technologies that question their own existence
- Experience a game that knows exactly what it's doing
You'll start by clicking to plant potatoes. You'll end by questioning the nature of free will.
Fair Warning
This game will try to manipulate you. It will tell you how it's manipulating you. You'll probably keep playing anyway.

Currently playing through and enjoying it so far. I was a little confused when I unlocked the nutrient automation that cost 500 (Can't remember the name) as it gave me an on/off switch similar to the Aquifer Tapper, but this then disappeared when I unlocked the Nuclear Ice Melter.
The game is too square, no matter how strange it may sound :) On the 16:9 monitor, I have plenty of space on the right and left, but I can't see the list of upgrades (bottom) and the number of potatoes (top) at the same time.
what is the purpose of the subterranean tube tunneler? bought it, but didnt notice a change
Love to see it! Any feedback? I'm actively developing the game and would love to get your thoughts, good or bad!
I think it takes just a bit too long to unlock the "true" automation, the automatic nutrients. The water generation is unlocked at a good point, but the nutrients are four times more expensive. To keep up with growth before then, you've got to constantly click the expedition button for upwards of half an hour (if you're also picking up expedition and growth speed upgrades,) which really kills the "constant power growth" fantasy that the upgrade text keeps talking about. It's also super tedious.
Really appreciate your feedback, those are great points. I agree the game needs some balancing. I will make automatic nutrient generation happen sooner, within 5-10 mins, at a low rate. Thank you for commenting and I'll let you know when this is fixed!
[NEW] Nutrient Prospecting Rover
Deploys a rover to prospect for nutrients in Martian regolith. Generates 6 nutrient every 20 seconds.
Pretty cool game, about 2 hours in.
I would suggest some css modifications for scaling the window in fullscreen
I would also prefer to see all upgrade by scrolling down the window
For the upgrade unlocked that you can ON/OFF: I cant understand what they are doing, maybe add a question mark button to make sure what they are doing
Looking forward
Thank you for the detailed feedback! You're absolutely right about the scaling and upgrade visibility issues - I'm working on implementing proper fullscreen support and scrolling functionality right now.
For the ON/OFF upgrades, I love your suggestion about adding question mark tooltips. I'll be adding a comprehensive tooltip system that will explain what each upgrade does, both before and after purchase.
Really appreciate you taking the time to play and share your thoughts! 🥔
i'm enjoying the game but i'm locked out of progressing with the scaling issues.
I'm so sorry about the scaling issues blocking your progression - this is definitely a top priority fix. I'm working on a proper scrolling system that will ensure you can access all game elements regardless of screen size. Should have an update ready very soon. Thank you for your patience!
could you please let me know if the scaling issues are fixed for you?
it worked! thank you very much. good game! i enjoyed the little lesson at the end
Fun but does need fullscreen mode or scroll ability or both. As I progress I have to zoom out farther and farther until I can't read things. Downloadable would be good also because some laptops or chromebooks can't do anything but one active tab at a time. Would like to be able to let this progress in the background and come back to it. Nice progression ark it seems to have; unlocking more water and etc. Fun overall.
Thank you for this comprehensive feedback! You've highlighted several important improvements needed:
1. Adding proper fullscreen support
2. Implementing scrolling
3. Making the game background-friendly for Chromebooks
I'm working on all of these features now. The background processing is particularly important for an idle game - great catch! Really glad you're enjoying the progression arc despite the technical issues.
This game needs the ability to scroll up and down. You lose access to upgrades when you unlock the size 16 field.
You're absolutely right about the scrolling - losing access to upgrades is a critical issue. I'm implementing proper vertical scrolling right now to ensure all game elements remain accessible throughout progression. Thank you for bringing this to my attention!
the gmae dont fit properly
Thank you for reporting this! I'm working on fixing the layout issues to ensure the game fits properly on all screen sizes. An update addressing this should be available very soon!
In Chrome there seems to be an issue with this game not scaling or scrolling correctly. As more buttons get unlocked, the game doesn't scroll vertically so you just have to zoom out the whole browser window to see everything (which also means shrinking the font).
Thank you for the detailed bug report! This Chrome scaling issue is definitely a problem, and I'm working on a proper fix that will include:
- Vertical scrolling
- Better responsive design
- Proper text scaling
No more need to zoom out the browser - I promise! Should have an update ready soon. Really appreciate you taking the time to report this! 🥔
